An odd reading month with some new release winners, backlist surprises, and an unpopular opinion or two. Here's a recap of the seven books I finished in July.
I read my first Monaghan in July (Nora Goes Off Script) and am looking forward to reading more, I snagged Dolly All The Time while browsing a local thrift shop. And I just started Heart the Lover yesterday!
I am often delightfully amazed at how much overlap we have in our reading, Heather! I hope you love Heart The Lover - I'd love to read that for the first time again!
How fun that you read the Murakami book, too! I'd love to read an updated version - I found his perspectives so interesting. Do you think you'll re-try North Woods at some future point?
So much goodness here! I’d go one further and say anyone who exists in a world with other people (all of us!) should read UH- such a testament to everyone just wanting to be seen and how we can make this world a touch more communal. I owned a hospitality company for the last 10 years and this was required reading as part of our onboarding process! Then we made everyone go through a book club on it with the leadership team!
I adore Lily King and have a few of her backlist to tackle, this one included. Have you done Father of the Rain? Such a good one.
Agree with you on North Woods! It made me feel like a fool that everyone was singing its praises and it felt a bit like a slog to me…
Just browsed the Kingsolver poetry (which I didn’t even know existed!) - going to pick this up to cross off my “poetry collection” for my summer reading challenge. Cannot wait for her fall release.
My favorite July Read has been the Unseen World by Liz Moore- attempting to read all her backlist!
That is an incredible endorsement for Unreasonable Hospitality! I love that you included it in your workplace in such a meaningful way - I bet those book club discussions were incredibly rich. I can't wait to chat about it later this month!
I hope you enjoy the Kingsolver poetry - I also didn't know it existed until the discovery via my library website. I don't know much about Partita either, but at this point it doesn't even matter - if Barbara Kingsolver wrote it, I'll read it!
Thank you for your thoughtful comment, Lynn! It sounds like we have similar reading tastes, so I am going to need to give Liz Moore a try - I've heard great things. And Father of the Rain is on deck for my next Lily King!

I tried North Woods a couple times and just couldn't get into it. That Murakami was my first read by him, I loved it! The audiobook was so good

I don't think I'll return to North Woods, too many books too little time haha
So true - I completely understand!
Such a great reading wrap-up! And so many new books to add to my TBR🫶
Thank you so much - and I hope you enjoy the new additions to your TBR!
