Your Mid-Year Personal Inventory
Say hello to the middle of 2025! And consider these questions as you reflect on your year thus far and envision your plans going forward.
Somehow, some way, we have already reached the middle of the year. How is yours going so far?
I always like to reserve an afternoon around this time of year to conduct a little review + planning session with myself. Essentially, I use this time to acknowledge, reflect on, and celebrate what the first half of the year has looked like, then to recalibrate, course-correct, or sometimes even cast an entirely new vision for the second half. A mid-year personal inventory, so to speak.
You may recall I created and shared an in-depth year-end review back in December (you can revisit that here if you’d like), and now is an excellent time to address those same questions to really set the stage for a powerful remainder of 2025. If time feels limited and you’d like a condensed set of questions to guide your mid-year assessment, however, that’s what today’s article is here to provide you.
(P.S. Last week I shared a bookish mid-year check-in here, if that’s also up your alley!)
Pre-Session Prep:
As per usual, I suggest blocking some uninterrupted time for this session, going to a quiet and ideally inspiring location (I often choose a local park or find a lakeside picnic table), and bringing as little as possible with you - maybe just your water bottle, journal, and pen, at least as you begin. I love to start my inventory first with only with what comes to mind, then go back through my planner or photos for additional info later if needed. I feel like this helps me truly see what stands out as priorities and peak moments.
I also incorporate a brief review of my purpose statement, core values, and guiding principles into this session, to see if they all still feel right or if any tweaking is needed.
From there, it’s time to begin the mid-year personal inventory.
Purposeful Questions For Your Personal Inventory
Plan to spend a bit of your session celebrating and reflecting on the first half of the year, then a bit more time on where you’re headed and what you’d like to create, experience, or focus on in the second half. The following questions can help.
As you reflect on the first half of the year:
What are you thankful for, happy about, proud of, and/or celebrating? Large or small, planned or unexpected, publicly-acknowledged or things only you know about…list ‘em all. (Starting with wins and gratitudes can help open your thinking for the rest of your session!)
What have you started doing, or started doing more of, that you’re finding helpful and/or uplifting?
What obstacles or challenges have you faced? What has helped you navigate through them?
What relationships feel strong, healthy, and/or supportive this year? Remember, ‘relationships’ can include family members, friends, colleagues, connections you’ve made through church or volunteer opportunities, and anyone else with whom you are connected. And don’t forget your relationship with yourself.
What goals, intentions, and/or theme did you establish at the start of the year? How are they looking at this mid-year point?
What are some of the top lessons you have learned, or that have been reaffirmed, in this first half of the year?
As you look ahead to the second half of the year:
Who are you at your best and highest self? What helps contribute to that way of living for you?
On December 31, what do you most want to say about yourself and/or your year?
What do you want to start doing? Stop doing? Continue doing?
Do your goals, intentions, and/or theme for this year (see #5 above) still feel accurate? If so, what will help you succeed with them? If not, how would you like to change them for the second half of the year?
What people and/or organizations would you like to connect with more going forward?
What would you like more of in your life? Less of?
What feels exciting, energizing, peaceful, clarifying, or whatever emotion is calling to you most at the moment? How could you bring that to life? (This article might give you some ideas on this one.)
Step Away, Then Forward
You might find yourself immediately motivated to begin brainstorming and action planning for the next half of your year. If that’s the case, go for it! As one of my coaches used to tell me, it can often be a great idea to go where the energy flows.
You might also find, like I typically do, that your brain feels pretty ‘full’ after the personal inventory session wraps up. In this case, I suggest scheduling an hour within the next two days to start setting up the plans and working out the details for what’s to come. This gives you a bit of time to step away, clear your mind, and allow new ideas to arrive, while also building on the momentum you’ve hopefully begun with your session.
Above all, enjoy the process! Celebrate all that you’ve created, ways you’ve grown, forward movement you’ve made, and what you’ve navigated already in 2025. Look ahead with confidence, clarity, optimism, and trust in yourself.
We’ve got a lot of year ahead of us yet. Let’s make it count!

Thank you Christi! I did this exercise while travelling to meet a friend and my husband was my journal 😅
It was really helpful and put me in a better spot than when I was before. This is inspiring as I am also on my way to get in my ACC certifications done! 😇
Looking forward to more from you.
